The skating programs offered by the skating club enable skaters of all ages to have fun while improving their skating skills. Professional coaches teach all Club programs. Trained Program Assistants assist with the delivery of our PreCanSkate, CanSkate and Advanced Canskate programs.
Pre-CanSkate
For the younger child who has no skating experience. There are two Winter sessions, 30 minute classes, once/week.
CanSkate
CanSkate is a learn-to-skate program for beginners of all ages that teaches fundamental movements. The program is set up in six stages: GO forward, GO backwards, STOP, TURN, SPIN and JUMP. The CanSkate program emphasizes fun and movement and is taught in a group lesson format. CanSkate is taught by professional coaches and assisted by trained Program Assistants. Awards and incentives are used to motivate skaters to achieve and develop their skills and keep interest high.
Advanced CanSkate
This stage is for for skaters wishing to progress into figure skating. It serves as a bridge from CanSkate to the StarSkate Program and introduces some figure skating skills that are included in the Preliminary level tests. This program, like CanSkate, is taught in a group setting. Skaters may wish to have a private lesson with a coach, in addition to the group instruction they receive at this level. Private lessons are arranged between the parents and the coach and are not included in the registration cost. Group lessons including Dance and Stroking are included in the registration cost. This level gives skaters the responsibility of setting goals and practicing on their own when not getting group instruction.
StarSkate
The Skate Canada StarSkate Program offers opportunities for skaters to develop basic skating skills in four different areas: Interpretive, Dance, Free Skate and Skills which are grouped into Junior, Intermediate and Senior levels. The Advanced CanSkate Programs prepare skaters to try tests in the StarSkate Program.
